If you’re thinking about selling your home and relocating in 2023, now is the time to put a plan in place and begin getting your house prepared to move in this market. Here are 5 things to do to get your house ready for sale…

1. Declutter, clean and organize. Now is the time to get rid of any unwanted or unused items. You want prospective buyers to see how much room your house has, not focus on everything you have. Donate or sell items of value. What's great about doing this ahead of time is that you have less to pack and move to your new home.

2. Update your house. Most buyers are looking for a turn-key property, so unless your house has had a recent update or you bought it new in the past few years, it may be time for new countertops, appliances, and flooring. If your cabinets are dated, consider having them refaced or painted. Also, change out older bathroom vanities and faucets, replace old tile (especially if it is cracked). These changes can make your home more attractive and may get you a higher price.

3. Clean and repair your windows and screens. Have a professional window washer come in and clean the glass, screens and tracks. Repair any that are difficult to open or close and repace any glass that is fogged or broken.

4. Refresh your landcaping. Overgrown trees and bushes make a house look tired and run down. Dead patches of grass make your home look as if it hasn't been cared for. Freshen up your ground cover with new mulch, pea gravel, or stone and have your gardener plant some flowers, especially in front for curb appeal.

5. Make a plan. Check out your options to buy another home, rent, or relocate well ahead of time. This way you'll know your options when the perfect buyer comes along.
